The Rocking

Watch the child that has fallen, sitting on the ground,
tears on the cheek,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Watch the terminal patient, no hope, no future,
only the pain, sitting quiet,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Watch the Grandmother sitting, knitting,
alone in the chair by the window,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Watch the friend of a loved one, in the ER,
waiting for the news, hoping,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Watch the Mother, watch her children leave home,
hidden tears, now alone,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Watch the grown child enter the world, hidden fears,
more than they thought,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Watch the people of our country, wanting who’s right,
elections now over,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Sitting in the dark, alone, the weight of responsibility
on my shoulders, tears,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Then I hear Their soft Voices, see Their Light, feel
Their Arms around me,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Just lying in the arms of our Lord and our Lady,
love, comfort, protection,
Just rocking, back and forth.
Just rocking, back and forth.
To those no longer in my daily life!
