Withdrawing from the bright light
Of the town hall and marketplace
Finding refuge
in the desert's sacred sites and burial grounds
A solitary druid priest
Retires to his true Nature
to contemplate the Shadows
Innate human urges and traits
Reality cruelly hidden from consciousness
by self-deception, arrogance and pride
Suppressed by will
Or fueled by delusions
Maintaining self-comforting illusions
not likely to survive the vengeance
from upheaval, destruction and darkness yet to come

Able to foretell the future
No longer a master of his destiny
Aware that his role on earth is diminished
He remains a bridge
Between the physical and the visionary world
A divine, wise and mischievous magician
The incarnation of intuition and instinct
A rascal possessed of neither wife nor mistress
Attracted, as always, to the extremely playful and lecherous
Mystery provoking curiosity
He exhibits a gentle strength
A natural psychological bond
with those women
singing and dancing
near the fires of Beltane
Too dangerous for the uninitiated
yet transforming for the genuine seeker of truth

Pursue him on his own turf
Offer inspiration to his creativity
Soften his exiled existence
Radiate glamour to
Extinguish his memories of
deception and withdrawal
With a courtesy to neither quarrel nor submit blindly
To another's agenda
Possess a willingness to share
Your deepest hopes and dreams
He will enchant you
With tales of wisdom and power
Fire up your mind
Point out with kindness and empathy the lies
told to avoid self-knowledge
reducing the alienation
between ego and subconscious
Promoting personal and spiritual freedom
Unveiling dynamic and vivid perceptions
Teasing the dark side out of the shadows
Moving the psyche to greater integration and meaning

Facing death of his human body
A pending return to the ever-present pure light
He may soon move to a more ephemeral plane
Yet will remain
hidden in the recesses of your mind
A prophet
No longer existing in time
Observing this world
through your eyes
Reaffirming your commitment
To provide solace and safety in
the rescue of lost wanderers
And desperate lovers
in their time of need
A companion to your soul
A champion of harmony and reciprocity
Protecting you eternally
For he is your Merlin
You are his Muse
